Girls’ School Target of Attacks

Poison gas is suspected to be the reason at least 30 girls from a girls’ school in Afghanistan have been hospitalized. This suspected attack is the latest in a series of incidents at girls’ schools involving an airborne substance that officials say could be poisonous gas.

While the Taliban has publicly condemned such attacks and claimed no involvement, girls were not permitted to go to school during Taliban reign, and still aren’t in some areas of Afghanistan where the Taliban has strong holds. Previous attacks include an incident in which girls and teachers were sprayed with acid in 2008.
