- Kenza Drider, a woman who wears a Muslim veil, is running for French presidency. Under the current president, Nicholas Sarkozy, France started a law banning such veils in public places, supposedly to liberate Muslim women. Women like Drider feel that controlling how they dress and how they express their religion is not at all liberating and Drider’s bid for presidency is one of the many ways they are fighting back.
- Plan International, an international children’s rights organization, has released a report highlighting some of the harmful gender inequalities children around the world are faced with, and the conclusion that more men and boys need to get behind the push for gender equality if it is going to be successful.
